Isaiah 43:23-24

Isaiah 43:23-24

[23] Thou hast not brought  me the small cattle  of thy burnt offerings;  neither hast thou honoured  me with thy sacrifices.  I have not caused thee to serve  with an offering,  nor wearied  thee with incense.  [24] Thou hast bought  me no sweet cane  with money,  neither hast thou filled  me with the fat  of thy sacrifices:  but thou hast made me to serve  with thy sins,  thou hast wearied  me with thine iniquities.

What does Isaiah 43:23-24 Mean?

Contextual Meaning

The people had brought few sacrifices and offerings to the Lord, even though His requirements of them in this regard were not excessive, and even what they had brought had not touched Him. Sweet cane (calamus) was an ingredient in the anointing oil (cf. Exodus 30:23; Jeremiah 6:20). What they had brought to Him in abundance was sin and iniquity. He was wearier of their worship than they were.
