He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:

Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law;

If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments; If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.

Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.

It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.
