Psalms 44:20-22

Psalms 44:20-22

[20] If we have forgotten  the name  of our God,  or stretched out  our hands  to a strange  god;  [21] Shall not God  search this out?  for he knoweth  the secrets  of the heart.  [22] Yea, for thy sake are we killed  all the day  long; we are counted  as sheep  for the slaughter.

What does Psalms 44:20-22 Mean?

Contextual Meaning

Their defeat and humiliation were not the consequences of apostasy. They suffered innocently for some unknown reason. It seemed as though God allowed Israel"s enemy to slaughter some of His sheep for purposes known only to Him.
The Apostle Paul quoted Psalm 44:22 in Romans 8:36 as proof that even though God"s people suffer, God does not forsake them.
