Salathiel - Whom I asked of God, the son of Jeconiah (
Matthew 1:12 ;
1 Chronicles 3:17 ); also called the son of
Neri (
Luke 3:27 ). The probable explanation of the apparent discrepancy is that he was the son of
Neri, the descendant of Nathan, and thus heir to the throne of David on the death of Jeconiah (Compare
Jeremiah 22:30 )
Jecamiah - One of seven, apparently sons of
Neri, of Nathan's line (as was Salathiel,

Numbers 27:8;
Numbers 36:8-9) married a man of a family of her paternal tribe, namely,
Neri descended from Nathan, David's son
Nedabiah - Assir, another son, left only a daughter who, according to the law of heiresses (
Numbers 27:8), married into her paternal tribe, namely,
Neri, sprung from Nathan, David's son (Keil). , sons of
Neri in lineal descent, the list in Chronicles only giving the order of succession

Salathiel - Son of Jeconias king of Judah, father of Zerobabel according to
Matthew 1:12; but son of
Neri, and father of Zerobabel according to
Luke 3:27; see also
1 Chronicles 3:17-19. No genealogy would assign to a king's true son and heir an inferior parentage, whereas a private person's son would naturally be ranked in the king's pedigree on his becoming rightful heir of the throne, therefore Luke's genealogy must be that of the natural descent, and Salathiel was "son of
Neri," descended from Nathan son of David
Shealtiel -
Luke 3:27;
Luke 3:31, makes Shealtiel son of
Neri, a descendant of David, through Nathan not Solomon; probably Jeconiah, (besides the Zedekiah in
1 Chronicles 3:16 who died childless), had another son, Assir, who left only a daughter, who, according to the law as to heiresses (
Numbers 27:8;
Numbers 36:8-9), married a man of her paternal tribe, namely,
Neri, of David's family in Nathan's line

Genealogy of Jesus Christ - (see above) from Abraham to David, but then gives the line to Shealtiel through David’s son Nathan, making Shealtiel the son of
Neri, not of king Jechoniah (see 2 below). Jechoniah was childless, or at least his heirs died out (
Jeremiah 22:24 ;
Jeremiah 22:30 ), and Shealtiel, though called his ‘son’ in
1 Chronicles 3:17 , was probably only his legal heir, being son of
Neri (
Luke 3:27 )

And who, when going to communicate, would protest before his Lord that he was good for nothing but to do evil Such utter self-prostration, I say, is the very badge and token of the servant of Christ; and this indeed is conveyed in His own words when He says, I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance
