One of the qualifications of deacons is that they not be double-tongued, that is, inconsistent in speech (1 Timothy 3:8 ). James 3:9-10 warns of the inconsistency of those who bless God while cursing those made in the image of God. 1 John 3:18 encourages consistency of loving words with loving actions. Inconsistency of speech might be taken as thinking one thing and saying another or as saying one thing to one, another thing to another.
