Psalms 85:1-3

[1] [[To the chief Musician,  A Psalm  for the sons  of Korah.]]  LORD,  thou hast been favourable  unto thy land:  thou hast brought back  the captivity  of Jacob.  [2] Thou hast forgiven  the iniquity  of thy people,  thou hast covered  all their sin.  Selah.  [3] Thou hast taken away  all thy wrath:  thou hast turned  thyself from the fierceness  of thine anger.

What does Psalms 85:1-3 Mean?

Contextual Meaning

The writer began by thanking God for delivering His people. The reference to restoration from captivity ( Psalm 85:1) suggests that this psalm may date to the return from Babylonian exile. However, the psalmist may have been referring to a more modest captivity, perhaps at the hand of a neighbor nation. In any case, he viewed Israel"s former enslavement to be the result of her sin and thanked God for pardoning that.
"In Psalm 85:3 a sin is conceived as a burden of the conscience; in Psalm 85:3 b as a blood-stain." [1]
