Psalms 72:1-4

Psalms 72:1-4

[1] [[A Psalm for Solomon.]]  Give  the king  thy judgments,  O God,  and thy righteousness  unto the king's  son.  [2] He shall judge  thy people  with righteousness,  and thy poor  with judgment.  [3] The mountains  shall bring  peace  to the people,  and the little hills,  by righteousness.  [4] He shall judge  the poor  of the people,  he shall save  the children  of the needy,  and shall break in pieces  the oppressor.

What does Psalms 72:1-4 Mean?

Contextual Meaning

This prayer for the ability to rule justly and righteously is similar to Solomon"s request for Wisdom of Solomon , which he voiced at the beginning of his reign ( 1 Kings 3:9). His references to the mountains and hills are probably metaphorical allusions to his government (cf. Psalm 30:7; Isaiah 2:2; Isaiah 41:15; Jeremiah 51:25; Daniel 2:35; Daniel 2:44; Revelation 17:9). Psalm 72:4 describes basic justice.
