Luke 13:22-30

Luke 13:22-30

[22] And  he went  through  the cities  and  villages,  teaching,  and  journeying  toward  [23] Then  said  one  unto  him,  Lord,  are there few  that be saved?  And  he said  unto them,  [24] Strive  to enter in  at  the strait  for  many,  I say  will seek  to enter in,  and  not  be able.  [25] When once  the master of the house  is risen up,  and  hath shut  to the door,  and  ye begin  to stand  without,  and  to knock  at the door,  saying,  Lord,  open  and  he shall answer  and say  I know  not  whence  [26] Then  shall ye begin  to say,  We have eaten  and  drunk  presence,  and  thou hast taught  in  streets.  [27] But  he shall say,  I tell  I know  not  whence  depart  from  all  ye workers  of iniquity.  [28] There  weeping  and  gnashing  of teeth,  when  Abraham,  and  Isaac,  and  Jacob,  and  all  the prophets,  in  the kingdom  of God,  and  yourselves thrust  out.  [29] And  they shall come  from  the east,  and  from the west,  and  from  the north,  and  from the south,  and  shall sit down  in  the kingdom  of God.  [30] And,  behold,  last  which  first,  and  first  which  last.

What does Luke 13:22-30 Mean?

Contextual Meaning

Another question led to this teaching. The thematic connection with Jesus" words implying the small beginning of the kingdom ( Luke 13:19; Luke 13:21) should be obvious. As elsewhere, Luke recorded Jesus teaching lessons and using illustrations and expressions that the other Gospel writers wrote that He used in other contexts. Jesus" repetition is understandable in view of His itinerant ministry and His great skill as a teacher.
