John 20:24-29

John 20:24-29

[24] But  Thomas,  one  of  the twelve,  called  Didymus,  not  with  them  when  Jesus  came.  [25] The other  disciples  therefore  unto him,  We have seen  the Lord.  But  he said  unto them,  in  his  hands  the print  of the nails,  and  put  finger  into  the print  of the nails,  and  thrust  hand  into  his  side,  believe.  [26] And  after  eight  days  again  his  disciples  within,  and  Thomas  with  them:  then came  Jesus,  the doors  being shut,  and  stood  in  the midst,  and  said,  Peace  [27] Then  saith he  to Thomas,  Reach  hither  finger,  and  hands;  and  reach hither  hand,  and  thrust  it into  side:  and  be  not  faithless,  but  believing.  [28] And  Thomas  answered  and  said  unto him,  Lord  and  God.  [29] Jesus  saith  unto him,  because  thou hast seen  thou hast believed:  blessed  are they that have not  and  yet have believed.

What does John 20:24-29 Mean?

Contextual Meaning

The last witness to Jesus" resurrection in John"s Gospel is Thomas, and the record of it has two parts. The first part sets the scene for the second (cf. ch21). John is the only evangelist who recorded this post-resurrection appearance. Thomas" confession is John"s climactic argument for belief in Jesus as the divine Messiah, the Christ.
