Hosea 9:15-17

Hosea 9:15-17

[15] All their wickedness  is in Gilgal:  for there I hated  them: for the wickedness  of their doings  I will drive them out  of mine house,  I will love  them no more:  all their princes  are revolters.  [16] Ephraim  is smitten,  their root  is dried up,  no fruit:  yea, though they bring forth,  yet will I slay  even the beloved  fruit of their womb.  [17] My God  will cast them away,  because they did not hearken  unto him: and they shall be wanderers  among the nations.

What does Hosea 9:15-17 Mean?

Contextual Meaning

"The previous section ( Hosea 9:10-14) began with a tender expression of Yahweh"s love. This section ( Hosea 9:15-17) begins with an affirmation of his hatred. The previous section looked back to the wilderness; this section looks back to Gilgal. Hosea views God as acting in history; thus historical events and the geographical sites where they occurred become vehicles of divine truth. The events of the exodus from Egypt spoke volumes about God, as did the events that took place in the wilderness and at Gilgal. To Hosea God"s response to the people at those places forever remains as crystallized truth about the nature of God." [1]
