What does Hebrews 7:13 Mean?

Context Summary

Hebrews 7:11-28 - Our Ever-Living And All-Sufficient Intercessor
If, as we saw in our last reading, the Levitical priests have been superseded, clearly the whole order of things-that is, the Mosaic covenant under which these priests were appointed-has been superseded also. The law of the carnal-that is, the outward ritual-has passed away in favor of a new dispensation which deals with the heart and character. It served a temporary purpose, but we are living in an eternal order which is steadfast and abiding.
Our Lord's priesthood is unchangeable and indissoluble. His blood and righteousness, His mediation for us, His loving understanding of us, will be a joy and comfort in the unending ages. We shall always be specially associated with Him-the brethren of the King, the sheep of the Divine Shepherd. Each priest of Aaron's line had to vacate his office; but our Lord's priesthood will never pass to another; and therefore to the uttermost lapse of time and to the farthest demand of circumstance, He will save and help all that come to Him. No infirmity weakens Him, no stain or sin unfits Him-above the heavens and from the throne He exercises His ministry. [source]

Greek Commentary for Hebrews 7:13

Belongeth to another tribe [πυλης ετερας μετεσχηκεν]
See Hebrews 2:14 for μετεχω — metechō perfect active indicative here. A different Perfect active indicative (watch perfects in Hebrews, not “for” aorists) of προσεχω — prosechō old verb, here with either νουν — noun (mind) or self (εαυτον — heauton) understood with dative case (τωι τυσιαστηριωι — tōi thusiastēriōi the altar, for which word see Matthew 5:23; Luke 1:11). d As the law prescribed that the priesthood should be of the order of Aaron, a new priesthood, not of that order, must set aside the law. [source]
Pertaineth to another tribe [φυλῆς ἑτέρας μετέσχηκεν]
Lit. hath partaken of another tribe. Not only another, but a different tribe; one not specially set apart to sacerdotal service. [source]
Of which no man gave attendance at the altar [ἀφ ' ἧς οὐδεὶς προσέσχηκεν τῷ θυσιαστηρίῳ]
Προσέχειν originally to bring to; bring the mind to; attend to. See on Hebrews 2:1. θυσιαστήριον altaroClass. Strictly an altar for the sacrifice of victims; but used of the altar of incense, Luke 1:11; Revelation 8:3; comp. Exodus 30:1. See on Acts 17:23. It was also used of the enclosure in which the altar stood. See Ignat. Eph. v; Trall. vii. See Lightfoot's interesting note, Ignatius and Polycarp, Vol. II., p. 43. [source]

Hebrews 8:4  []
d Rend. “Now if he were on earth he would not be a priest at all, seeing that there are those who offer the gifts according to the law.” Christ could not be a priest on earth, because there is an order of priests already established by law; and as Christ was not of the tribe of Levi (Hebrews 7:13, Hebrews 7:14) he could have nothing in common with them. -DIVIDER-
