Acts 5:12-16

Acts 5:12-16

[12] And  by  the hands  of the apostles  many  signs  and  wonders  wrought  among  the people;  (and  all  with one accord  in  Solomon's  porch.  [13] And  of the rest  durst  no man  join himself  to them:  but  the people  magnified  them.  [14] And  believers  the more  added  to the Lord,  multitudes  both  of men  and  women.)  [15] Insomuch  that they brought forth  the sick  the streets,  and  laid  them on  and  couches,  that  at the least  the shadow  of Peter  passing by  might overshadow  some  of them.  [16] There came  also  a multitude  out of the cities  round about  Jerusalem,  bringing  sick  folks, and  them which were vexed  with  unclean  spirits:  and they  were healed  every one.

What does Acts 5:12-16 Mean?

Contextual Meaning

This pericope is another of Luke"s summaries of conditions in the church that introduces what follows (cf. Acts 2:42-47; Acts 4:32-35). It also explains why the Sadducees became so jealous that they arrested not only Peter and John but other apostles as well. The apostles were gaining great influence not only in Jerusalem but also in the outlying areas. The healing of one lame man had triggered initial opposition ( Acts 3:1-10), but now many people were being healed.
