The Rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.
And if a sojourner or stranger wax Rich by thee, and thy brother that dwelleth by him wax poor, and sell himself unto the stranger or sojourner by thee, or to the stock of the stranger's family:
And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or Rich.
And there came a traveller unto the Rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.
The Rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit. Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the Rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.
These were thy merchants in all sorts of things, in blue clothes, and broidered work, and in chests of Rich apparel, bound with cords, and made of cedar, among thy merchandise.
Whose possessors slay them, and hold themselves not guilty: and they that sell them say, Blessed be the LORD; for I am Rich: and their own shepherds pity them not.
Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thyRich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.
And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain Rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.
For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was Rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be Rich.
Charge them that are Rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the Rich man fade away in his ways.
Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world Rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
Go to now, yeRich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. read more
