Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy ELDERS: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the ELDERS of Israel followed him.
And Moab said unto the ELDERS of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.

And Moses with the ELDERS of Israel commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandments which I command you this day.
Ye stand this day all of you before the LORD your God; your captains of your tribes, your ELDERS, and your officers, with all the men of Israel,

And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way. And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice; I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died: That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not. show less

Then the ELDERS of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?

And the king sent, and they gathered unto him all the ELDERS of Judah and of Jerusalem.
Therefore came all the ELDERS of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD by Samuel.
So David, and the ELDERS of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the house of Obededom with joy.
And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the ELDERS of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.
Then Solomon assembled the ELDERS of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion. Wherefore all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto the king in the feast which was in the seventh month. And all the ELDERS of Israel came; and the Levites took up the ark. But the eye of their God was upon the ELDERS of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they returned answer by letter concerning this matter.
Then asked we those ELDERS, and said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house, and to make up these walls?
Let the work of this house of God alone; let the governor of the Jews and the ELDERS of the Jews build this house of God in his place.
Moreover I make a decree what ye shall do to the ELDERS of these Jews for the building of this house of God: that of the king's goods, even of the tribute beyond the river, forthwith expences be given unto these men, that they be not hindered.
And the ELDERS of the Jews builded, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they builded, and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the commandment of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.
And that whosoever would not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the ELDERS, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the congregation of those that had been carried away.
Let now our rulers of all the congregation stand, and let all them which have taken strange wives in our cities come at appointed times, and with them the ELDERS of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God for this matter be turned from us.
Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the ELDERS.
And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the ELDERS of the priests covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.
Then rose up certain of the ELDERS of the land, and spake to all the assembly of the people, saying,

Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the ELDERS? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

But the chief priests and ELDERS persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
And when they were assembled with the ELDERS, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the ELDERS.
Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the ELDERS, but eat bread with unwashen hands?
And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the ELDERS, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men. And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. read more For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the ELDERS,
And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the ELDERS.
And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the ELDERS and the scribes.
And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the ELDERS and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.
And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the ELDERS of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.
Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the ELDERS and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.
And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the ELDERS,
Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the ELDERS, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?
And as soon as it was day, the ELDERS of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and ELDERS of Israel,
And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and ELDERS had said unto them.
And they stirred up the people, and the ELDERS, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,
And when they had ordained them ELDERS in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.
Then pleased it the apostles and ELDERS, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:
And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and ELDERS and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia:
And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and ELDERS which were at Jerusalem.
And they came to the chief priests and ELDERS, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul. Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would inquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.
About whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the ELDERS of the Jews informed me, desiring to have judgment against him.

And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty ELDERS sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.
The four and twenty ELDERS fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
And one of the ELDERS saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the ELDERS, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty ELDERS fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the ELDERS: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty ELDERS fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the ELDERS and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,
And one of the ELDERS answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?
And the four and twenty ELDERS, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,
And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the ELDERS: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
And the four and twenty ELDERS and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.
