War

That these made War with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar.

Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any War, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.

And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see War, and they return to Egypt:

The LORD is a man of War: the LORD is his name.

For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have War with Amalek from generation to generation.

And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, There is a noise of War in the camp.

From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to War in Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies.

And the children of Reuben, Israel's eldest son, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to War;

Of the children of Simeon, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, those that were numbered of them, according to the number of the names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to War;

Of the children of Gad, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to War;

Of the children of Judah, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to War;

Of the children of Issachar, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to War;

Of the children of Zebulun, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to War;

Of the children of Joseph, namely, of the children of Ephraim, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to War;

Of the children of Manasseh, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to War;

Of the children of Benjamin, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to War;

Of the children of Dan, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to War;

Of the children of Asher, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to War;

Of the children of Naphtali, throughout their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to War;

So were all those that were numbered of the children of Israel, by the house of their fathers, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to War in Israel;

And if ye go to War in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.

Take the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, from twenty years old and upward, throughout their fathers' house, all that are able to go to War in Israel.

And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the War, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the LORD of Midian.

Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the War.

So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for War.

And divide the prey into two parts; between them that took the War upon them, who went out to battle, and between all the congregation:

And levy a tribute unto the LORD of the men of War which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the beeves, and of the asses, and of the sheep:

And the booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of War had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep,

And the half, which was the portion of them that went out to War, was in number three hundred thousand and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred sheep:

And they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of War which are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us.

(For the men of War had taken spoil, every man for himself.)

And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to War, and shall ye sit here?

And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the LORD to War,

But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for War, before the LORD to battle, as my lord saith.

Then ye answered and said unto me, We have sinned against the LORD, we will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us. And when ye had girded on every man his weapons of War, ye were ready to go up into the hill.

And the space in which we came from Kadeshbarnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of War were wasted out from among the host, as the LORD sware unto them.

So it came to pass, when all the men of War were consumed and dead from among the people,

And I commanded you at that time, saying, The LORD your God hath given you this land to possess it: ye shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all that are meet for the War.

Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by War, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make War against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:

When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making War against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man's life) to employ them in the siege:

Only the trees which thou knowest that they be not trees for meat, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh War with thee, until it be subdued.

When thou goest forth to War against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive,

When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to War, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken.

About forty thousand prepared for War passed over before the LORD unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.

And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of War, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.

For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of War, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of War, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.

And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of War with thee, and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:

So Joshua arose, and all the people of War, to go up against Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand mighty men of valour, and sent them away by night.

And all the people, even the people of War that were with him, went up, and drew nigh, and came before the city, and pitched on the north side of Ai: now there was a valley between them and Ai.

Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made War against it.

So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he, and all the people of War with him, and all the mighty men of valour.

And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of War which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.

So Joshua came, and all the people of War with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them.

Joshua made War a long time with all those kings.

So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from War.

And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made War against Israel.

And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made War against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob:

Wherefore I have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to War against me: the LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.

And there went from thence of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men appointed with weapons of War.

And the six hundred men appointed with their weapons of War, which were of the children of Dan, stood by the entering of the gate.

And the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in thither, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood in the entering of the gate with the six hundred men that were appointed with weapons of War.

And the men of Israel, beside Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew sword: all these were men of War.

And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the War: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.

Moreover the Philistines had yet War again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David waxed faint.

And they continued three years without War between Syria and Israel.

And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to the War against Hazael king of Syria in Ramothgilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.

And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by War. Three times did Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.

And in the days of Saul they made War with the Hagarites, who fell by their hand: and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the east land of Gilead.

The sons of Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh, of valiant men, men able to bear buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skilful in War, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and threescore, that went out to the War.

And they made War with the Hagarites, with Jetur, and Nephish, and Nodab.

For there fell down many slain, because the War was of God. And they dwelt in their steads until the captivity.

And with them, by their generations, after the house of their fathers, were bands of soldiers for War, six and thirty thousand men: for they had many wives and sons.

All these the sons of Jediael, by the heads of their fathers, mighty men of valour, were seventeen thousand and two hundred soldiers, fit to go out for War and battle.

All these were the children of Asher, heads of their father's house, choice and mighty men of valour, chief of the princes. And the number throughout the genealogy of them that were apt to the War and to battle was twenty and six thousand men.

Now these are they that came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish: and they were among the mighty men, helpers of the War.

And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David into the hold to the wilderness men of might, and men of War fit for the battle, that could handle shield and buckler, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and were as swift as the roes upon the mountains;

And these are the numbers of the bands that were ready armed to the War, and came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of the LORD.

The children of Judah that bare shield and spear were six thousand and eight hundred, ready armed to the War.

Of the children of Simeon, mighty men of valour for the War, seven thousand and one hundred.

And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no War in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.

And there was no more War unto the five and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa.

And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no War against Jehoshaphat.

Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to War by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king's captains.

And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made War with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.

Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the War,

And he set captains of War over the people, and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city, and spake comfortably to them, saying,

Now after this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of War in all the fenced cities of Judah.

But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house wherewith I have War: for God commanded me to make haste: forbear thee from meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not.

In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in War from the power of the sword.

Thou renewest thy witnesses against me, and increasest thine indignation upon me; changes and War are against me.

Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and War?

Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the War.

And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to War against it, but could not prevail against it.

For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of War.

I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for War: now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He is come forth to make War with thee. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that War against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.

The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of War: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail against his enemies.

My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of War.

Prepare ye War against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day goeth away, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.

They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for War against thee, O daughter of Zion.

The prophets that have been before me and before thee of old prophesied both against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of War, and of evil, and of pestilence.
