And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an Altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.

Unto the place of the Altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.

Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an Altar unto the LORD.

And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an Altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the Altar upon the wood.

And he builded an Altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac's servants digged a well.

And he erected there an Altar, and called it EleloheIsrael.

And Moses built an Altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:

An Altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.

And if thou wilt make me an Altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.

Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine Altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.

But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine Altar, that he may die.

And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an Altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.

And Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basons; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the Altar.

And thou shalt make an Altar of shittim wood, five cubits long, and five cubits broad; the Altar shall be foursquare: and the height thereof shall be three cubits.

And thou shalt put it under the compass of the Altar beneath, that the net may be even to the midst of the Altar.

And thou shalt make staves for the Altar, staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with brass.

And the staves shall be put into the rings, and the staves shall be upon the two sides of the Altar, to bear it.

• Priest

And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they come in unto the tabernacle of the congregation, or when they come near unto the Altar to minister in the holy place; that they bear not iniquity, and die: it shall be a statute for ever unto him and his seed after him.

• Blood

And thou shalt take of the blood of the bullock, and put it upon the horns of the Altar with thy finger, and pour all the blood beside the bottom of the Altar.

• Caul

And thou shalt take all the fat that covereth the inwards, and the caul that is above the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and burn them upon the Altar.

• Blood

And thou shalt slay the ram, and thou shalt take his blood, and sprinkle it round about upon the Altar.

And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the Altar: it is a burnt offering unto the LORD: it is a sweet savour, an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

Then shalt thou kill the ram, and take of his blood, and put it upon the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and upon the tip of the right ear of his sons, and upon the thumb of their right hand, and upon the great toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood upon the Altar round about.

And thou shalt take of the blood that is upon the Altar, and of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon the garments of his sons with him: and he shall be hallowed, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons' garments with him.

And thou shalt receive them of their hands, and burn them upon the Altar for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour before the LORD: it is an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

And thou shalt offer every day a bullock for a sin offering for atonement: and thou shalt cleanse the Altar, when thou hast made an atonement for it, and thou shalt anoint it, to sanctify it.

Seven days thou shalt make an atonement for the Altar, and sanctify it; and it shall be an Altar most holy: whatsoever toucheth the Altar shall be holy.

Now this is that which thou shalt offer upon the Altar; two lambs of the first year day by day continually.

And I will sanctify the tabernacle of the congregation, and the Altar: I will sanctify also both Aaron and his sons, to minister to me in the priest's office.

And thou shalt make an Altar to burn incense upon: of shittim wood shalt thou make it.

Thou shalt also make a laver of brass, and his foot also of brass, to wash withal: and thou shalt put it between the tabernacle of the congregation and the Altar, and thou shalt put water therein.

When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the Altar to minister, to burn offering made by fire unto the LORD:

And the table and all his vessels, and the candlestick and his vessels, and the Altar of incense,

And the Altar of burnt offering with all his vessels, and the laver and his foot.

And the table and his furniture, and the pure candlestick with all his furniture, and the Altar of incense,

And the Altar of burnt offering with all his furniture, and the laver and his foot,

And when Aaron saw it, he built an Altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD.

And the incense Altar, and his staves, and the anointing oil, and the sweet incense, and the hanging for the door at the entering in of the tabernacle,

The Altar of burnt offering, with his brasen grate, his staves, and all his vessels, the laver and his foot,

And he made the incense Altar of shittim wood: the length of it was a cubit, and the breadth of it a cubit; it was foursquare; and two cubits was the height of it; the horns thereof were of the same.

And he made the Altar of burnt offering of shittim wood: five cubits was the length thereof, and five cubits the breadth thereof; it was foursquare; and three cubits the height thereof.

And he made all the vessels of the Altar, the pots, and the shovels, and the basons, and the fleshhooks, and the firepans: all the vessels thereof made he of brass.

And he made for the Altar a brasen grate of network under the compass thereof beneath unto the midst of it.

And he put the staves into the rings on the sides of the Altar, to bear it withal; he made the Altar hollow with boards.

And therewith he made the sockets to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the brasen Altar, and the brasen grate for it, and all the vessels of the Altar,

And the golden Altar, and the anointing oil, and the sweet incense, and the hanging for the tabernacle door,

The brasen Altar, and his grate of brass, his staves, and all his vessels, the laver and his foot,

And thou shalt set the Altar of gold for the incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the hanging of the door to the tabernacle.

And thou shalt set the Altar of the burnt offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation.

And thou shalt set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the Altar, and shalt put water therein.

• Anointing

And thou shalt anoint the Altar of the burnt offering, and all his vessels, and sanctify the Altar: and it shall be an Altar most holy.

And he put the golden Altar in the tent of the congregation before the vail:

• Offerings

And he put the Altar of burnt offering by the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation, and offered upon it the burnt offering and the meat offering; as the LORD commanded Moses.

And he set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the Altar, and put water there, to wash withal.

• Obedience

When they went into the tent of the congregation, and when they came near unto the Altar, they washed; as the LORD commanded Moses.

And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the Altar, and set up the hanging of the court gate. So Moses finished the work.

• Blood

And he shall kill the bullock before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall bring the blood, and sprinkle the blood round about upon the Altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

• Offerings

And the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire upon the Altar, and lay the wood in order upon the fire:

And the priests, Aaron's sons, shall lay the parts, the head, and the fat, in order upon the wood that is on the fire which is upon the Altar:

But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water: and the priest shall burn all on the Altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

And he shall kill it on the side of the Altar northward before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall sprinkle his blood round about upon the Altar.

And he shall cut it into his pieces, with his head and his fat: and the priest shall lay them in order on the wood that is on the fire which is upon the Altar:

But he shall wash the inwards and the legs with water: and the priest shall bring it all, and burn it upon the Altar: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

And the priest shall bring it unto the Altar, and wring off his head, and burn it on the Altar; and the blood thereof shall be wrung out at the side of the Altar:

And he shall pluck away his crop with his feathers, and cast it beside the Altar on the east part, by the place of the ashes:

And he shall cleave it with the wings thereof, but shall not divide it asunder: and the priest shall burn it upon the Altar, upon the wood that is upon the fire: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

And he shall bring it to Aaron's sons the priests: and he shall take thereout his handful of the flour thereof, and of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof; and the priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the Altar, to be an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD:

And thou shalt bring the meat offering that is made of these things unto the LORD: and when it is presented unto the priest, he shall bring it unto the Altar.

And the priest shall take from the meat offering a memorial thereof, and shall burn it upon the Altar: it is an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

As for the oblation of the firstfruits, ye shall offer them unto the LORD: but they shall not be burnt on the Altar for a sweet savour.

And he shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering, and kill it at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aaron's sons the priests shall sprinkle the blood upon the Altar round about.

And Aaron's sons shall burn it on the Altar upon the burnt sacrifice, which is upon the wood that is on the fire: it is an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

And he shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering, and kill it before the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aaron's sons shall sprinkle the blood thereof round about upon the Altar.

And the priest shall burn it upon the Altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire unto the LORD.

And he shall lay his hand upon the head of it, and kill it before the tabernacle of the congregation: and the sons of Aaron shall sprinkle the blood thereof upon the Altar round about.

• Priest

And the priest shall burn them upon the Altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire for a sweet savour: all the fat is the LORD'S.

• Blood

And the priest shall put some of the blood upon the horns of the Altar of sweet incense before the LORD, which is in the tabernacle of the congregation; and shall pour all the blood of the bullock at the bottom of the Altar of the burnt offering, which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

As it was taken off from the bullock of the sacrifice of peace offerings: and the priest shall burn them upon the Altar of the burnt offering.

And he shall put some of the blood upon the horns of the Altar which is before the LORD, that is in the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall pour out all the blood at the bottom of the Altar of the burnt offering, which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

• Blood

And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, and put it upon the horns of the Altar of burnt offering, and shall pour out his blood at the bottom of the Altar of burnt offering.

And he shall burn all his fat upon the Altar, as the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings: and the priest shall make an atonement for him as concerning his sin, and it shall be forgiven him.

And the priest shall take of the blood thereof with his finger, and put it upon the horns of the Altar of burnt offering, and shall pour out all the blood thereof at the bottom of the Altar.

And he shall take away all the fat thereof, as the fat is taken away from off the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall burn it upon the Altar for a sweet savour unto the LORD; and the priest shall make an atonement for him, and it shall be forgiven him.

And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, and put it upon the horns of the Altar of burnt offering, and shall pour out all the blood thereof at the bottom of the Altar:

And he shall take away all the fat thereof, as the fat of the lamb is taken away from the sacrifice of the peace offerings; and the priest shall burn them upon the Altar, according to the offerings made by fire unto the LORD: and the priest shall make an atonement for his sin that he hath committed, and it shall be forgiven him.

And he shall sprinkle of the blood of the sin offering upon the side of the Altar; and the rest of the blood shall be wrung out at the bottom of the Altar: it is a sin offering.

Then shall he bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take his handful of it, even a memorial thereof, and burn it on the Altar, according to the offerings made by fire unto the LORD: it is a sin offering.

Command Aaron and his sons, saying, This is the law of the burnt offering: It is the burnt offering, because of the burning upon the Altar all night unto the morning, and the fire of the Altar shall be burning in it.

And the priest shall put on his linen garment, and his linen breeches shall he put upon his flesh, and take up the ashes which the fire hath consumed with the burnt offering on the Altar, and he shall put them beside the Altar.

And the fire upon the Altar shall be burning in it; it shall not be put out: and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order upon it; and he shall burn thereon the fat of the peace offerings.

The fire shall ever be burning upon the Altar; it shall never go out.

And this is the law of the meat offering: the sons of Aaron shall offer it before the LORD, before the Altar.

And he shall take of it his handful, of the flour of the meat offering, and of the oil thereof, and all the frankincense which is upon the meat offering, and shall burn it upon the Altar for a sweet savour, even the memorial of it, unto the LORD.

In the place where they kill the burnt offering shall they kill the trespass offering: and the blood thereof shall he sprinkle round about upon the Altar.

And the priest shall burn them upon the Altar for an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it is a trespass offering.

And the priest shall burn the fat upon the Altar: but the breast shall be Aaron's and his sons'.

• Anointing

And he sprinkled thereof upon the Altar seven times, and anointed the Altar and all his vessels, both the laver and his foot, to sanctify them.

And he slew it; and Moses took the blood, and put it upon the horns of the Altar round about with his finger, and purified the Altar, and poured the blood at the bottom of the Altar, and sanctified it, to make reconciliation upon it.

• Caul

And he took all the fat that was upon the inwards, and the caul above the liver, and the two kidneys, and their fat, and Moses burned it upon the Altar.

• Blood

And he killed it; and Moses sprinkled the blood upon the Altar round about.

And he washed the inwards and the legs in water; and Moses burnt the whole ram upon the Altar: it was a burnt sacrifice for a sweet savour, and an offering made by fire unto the LORD; as the LORD commanded Moses.

And Moses said unto Aaron, Go unto the Altar, and offer thy sin offering, and thy burnt offering, and make an atonement for thyself, and for the people: and offer the offering of the people, and make an atonement for them; as the LORD commanded.

Aaron therefore went unto the Altar, and slew the calf of the sin offering, which was for himself.

And the sons of Aaron brought the blood unto him: and he dipped his finger in the blood, and put it upon the horns of the Altar, and poured out the blood at the bottom of the Altar:

But the fat, and the kidneys, and the caul above the liver of the sin offering, he burnt upon the Altar; as the LORD commanded Moses.

• Blood

And he slew the burnt offering; and Aaron's sons presented unto him the blood, which he sprinkled round about upon the Altar.

And he did wash the inwards and the legs, and burnt them upon the burnt offering on the Altar.

And he brought the meat offering, and took an handful thereof, and burnt it upon the Altar, beside the burnt sacrifice of the morning.

• Blood

He slew also the bullock and the ram for a sacrifice of peace offerings, which was for the people: and Aaron's sons presented unto him the blood, which he sprinkled upon the Altar round about,

And they put the fat upon the breasts, and he burnt the fat upon the Altar:

• Miracles

And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed upon the Altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

And Moses spake unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons that were left, Take the meat offering that remaineth of the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and eat it without leaven beside the Altar: for it is most holy:

And the priest shall offer the burnt offering and the meat offering upon the Altar: and the priest shall make an atonement for him, and he shall be clean.

And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the Altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail:

And he shall go out unto the Altar that is before the LORD, and make an atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the Altar round about.

And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the Altar, he shall bring the live goat:

And the fat of the sin offering shall he burn upon the Altar.

And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the Altar, and he shall make an atonement for the priests, and for all the people of the congregation.

And the priest shall sprinkle the blood upon the Altar of the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and burn the fat for a sweet savour unto the LORD.

For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the Altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

Only he shall not go in unto the vail, nor come nigh unto the Altar, because he hath a blemish; that he profane not my sanctuaries: for I the LORD do sanctify them.

Blind, or broken, or maimed, or having a wen, or scurvy, or scabbed, ye shall not offer these unto the LORD, nor make an offering by fire of them upon the Altar unto the LORD.

And the hangings of the court, and the curtain for the door of the court, which is by the tabernacle, and by the Altar round about, and the cords of it for all the service thereof.

And upon the golden Altar they shall spread a cloth of blue, and cover it with a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put to the staves thereof:

And they shall take away the ashes from the Altar, and spread a purple cloth thereon:

And they shall put upon it all the vessels thereof, wherewith they minister about it, even the censers, the fleshhooks, and the shovels, and the basons, all the vessels of the Altar; and they shall spread upon it a covering of badgers' skins, and put to the staves of it.

And the hangings of the court, and the hanging for the door of the gate of the court, which is by the tabernacle and by the Altar round about, and their cords, and all the instruments of their service, and all that is made for them: so shall they serve.

• Offerings

Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering out of the woman's hand, and shall wave the offering before the LORD, and offer it upon the Altar:

And the priest shall take an handful of the offering, even the memorial thereof, and burn it upon the Altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water.

• Anointing

And it came to pass on the day that Moses had fully set up the tabernacle, and had anointed it, and sanctified it, and all the instruments thereof, both the Altar and all the vessels thereof, and had anointed them, and sanctified them;

And the princes offered for dedicating of the Altar in the day that it was anointed, even the princes offered their offering before the Altar.

And the LORD said unto Moses, They shall offer their offering, each prince on his day, for the dedicating of the Altar.

• Government

This was the dedication of the Altar, in the day when it was anointed, by the princes of Israel: twelve chargers of silver, twelve silver bowls, twelve spoons of gold:

And all the oxen for the sacrifice of the peace offerings were twenty and four bullocks, the rams sixty, the he goats sixty, the lambs of the first year sixty. This was the dedication of the Altar, after that it was anointed.

The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the Altar: for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.

And Eleazar the priest took the brasen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the Altar:

And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the Altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.

And they shall keep thy charge, and the charge of all the tabernacle: only they shall not come nigh the vessels of the sanctuary and the Altar, that neither they, nor ye also, die.

• Priest

And ye shall keep the charge of the sanctuary, and the charge of the Altar: that there be no wrath any more upon the children of Israel.

Therefore thou and thy sons with thee shall keep your priest's office for every thing of the Altar, and within the vail; and ye shall serve: I have given your priest's office unto you as a service of gift: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

But the firstling of a cow, or the firstling of a sheep, or the firstling of a goat, thou shalt not redeem; they are holy: thou shalt sprinkle their blood upon the Altar, and shalt burn their fat for an offering made by fire, for a sweet savour unto the LORD.

And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every Altar a bullock and a ram.

And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every Altar a bullock and a ram.

And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every Altar.

And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every Altar.

And thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings, the flesh and the blood, upon the Altar of the LORD thy God: and the blood of thy sacrifices shall be poured out upon the Altar of the LORD thy God, and thou shalt eat the flesh.

Thou shalt not plant thee a grove of any trees near unto the Altar of the LORD thy God, which thou shalt make thee.

And the priest shall take the basket out of thine hand, and set it down before the Altar of the LORD thy God.

And there shalt thou build an Altar unto the LORD thy God, an Altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them.

Thou shalt build the Altar of the LORD thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer burnt offerings thereon unto the LORD thy God:

They shall teach Jacob thy judgments, and Israel thy law: they shall put incense before thee, and whole burnt sacrifice upon thine Altar.

Then Joshua built an Altar unto the LORD God of Israel in mount Ebal,

• Stones

As Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an Altar of whole stones, over which no man hath lift up any iron: and they offered thereon burnt offerings unto the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.

And Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the Altar of the LORD, even unto this day, in the place which he should choose.

And when they came unto the borders of Jordan, that are in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh built there an Altar by Jordan, a great Altar to see to.

And the children of Israel heard say, Behold, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an Altar over against the land of Canaan, in the borders of Jordan, at the passage of the children of Israel.

Thus saith the whole congregation of the LORD, What trespass is this that ye have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following the LORD, in that ye have builded you an Altar, that ye might rebel this day against the LORD?

Notwithstanding, if the land of your possession be unclean, then pass ye over unto the land of the possession of the LORD, wherein the LORD'S tabernacle dwelleth, and take possession among us: but rebel not against the LORD, nor rebel against us, in building you an Altar beside the Altar of the LORD our God.

That we have built us an Altar to turn from following the LORD, or if to offer thereon burnt offering or meat offering, or if to offer peace offerings thereon, let the LORD himself require it;

Therefore we said, Let us now prepare to build us an Altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice:

Therefore said we, that it shall be, when they should so say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we may say again, Behold the pattern of the Altar of the LORD, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifices; but it is a witness between us and you.

God forbid that we should rebel against the LORD, and turn this day from following the LORD, to build an Altar for burnt offerings, for meat offerings, or for sacrifices, beside the Altar of the LORD our God that is before his tabernacle.

And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad called the Altar Ed: for it shall be a witness between us that the LORD is God.

Then Gideon built an Altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father's young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the Altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:

And build an Altar unto the LORD thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down.

For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the Altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the Altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there an Altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.

And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine Altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?

And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine Altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.

And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an Altar unto the LORD.

And Saul built an Altar unto the LORD: the same was the first Altar that he built unto the LORD.

And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an Altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.

And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an Altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people.

And David built there an Altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.

And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the Altar.

And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon: for, lo, he hath caught hold on the horns of the Altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me to day that he will not slay his servant with the sword.

So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the Altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: and Solomon said unto him, Go to thine house.

Then tidings came to Joab: for Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he turned not after Absalom. And Joab fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD, and caught hold on the horns of the Altar.

And it was told king Solomon that Joab was fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD; and, behold, he is by the Altar. Then Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go, fall upon him.

And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that Altar.

And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the Altar which was of cedar.

And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the Altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.

The same day did the king hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings: because the brasen Altar that was before the LORD was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings.

And three times in a year did Solomon offer burnt offerings and peace offerings upon the Altar which he built unto the LORD, and he burnt incense upon the Altar that was before the LORD. So he finished the house.

And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the Altar. So did he in Bethel, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.

And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which the LORD hath spoken; Behold, the Altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.

And it came to pass, when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had cried against the Altar in Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the Altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.

The Altar also was rent, and the ashes poured out from the Altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.

For the saying which he cried by the word of the LORD against the Altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.

And he reared up an Altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.

And with the stones he built an Altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the Altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.

And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, round about the king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple, along by the Altar and the temple.

But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the Altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the LORD: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.

And king Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, and saw an Altar that was at Damascus: and king Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest the fashion of the Altar, and the pattern of it, according to all the workmanship thereof.

And Urijah the priest built an Altar according to all that king Ahaz had sent from Damascus: so Urijah the priest made it against king Ahaz came from Damascus.

And when the king was come from Damascus, the king saw the Altar: and the king approached to the Altar, and offered thereon.

And king Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, Upon the great Altar burn the morning burnt offering, and the evening meat offering, and the king's burnt sacrifice, and his meat offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, and their meat offering, and their drink offerings; and sprinkle upon it all the blood of the burnt offering, and all the blood of the sacrifice: and the brasen Altar shall be for me to inquire by.

But if ye say unto me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this Altar in Jerusalem?

Nevertheless the priests of the high places came not up to the Altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they did eat of the unleavened bread among their brethren.

Moreover the Altar that was at Bethel, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, both that Altar and the high place he brake down, and burned the high place, and stamped it small to powder, and burned the grove.

And as Josiah turned himself, he spied the sepulchres that were there in the mount, and sent, and took the bones out of the sepulchres, and burned them upon the Altar, and polluted it, according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words.

And in the eighth day they made a solemn assembly: for they kept the dedication of the Altar seven days, and the feast seven days.

Then Solomon offered burnt offerings unto the LORD on the Altar of the LORD, which he had built before the porch,

And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the Altar of the LORD, that was before the porch of the LORD.

And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the Altar and the temple, by the king round about.

So they killed the bullocks, and the priests received the blood, and sprinkled it on the Altar: likewise, when they had killed the rams, they sprinkled the blood upon the Altar: they killed also the lambs, and they sprinkled the blood upon the Altar.

And the priests killed them, and they made reconciliation with their blood upon the Altar, to make an atonement for all Israel: for the king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering should be made for all Israel.

And Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt offering upon the Altar. And when the burnt offering began, the song of the LORD began also with the trumpets, and with the instruments ordained by David king of Israel.

Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one Altar, and burn incense upon it?

The Altar of wood was three cubits high, and the length thereof two cubits; and the corners thereof, and the length thereof, and the walls thereof, were of wood: and he said unto me, This is the table that is before the LORD.

And these are the measures of the Altar after the cubits: The cubit is a cubit and an hand breadth; even the bottom shall be a cubit, and the breadth a cubit, and the border thereof by the edge thereof round about shall be a span: and this shall be the higher place of the Altar.

So the Altar shall be four cubits; and from the Altar and upward shall be four horns.

And the Altar shall be twelve cubits long, twelve broad, square in the four squares thereof.

And he said unto me, Son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; These are the ordinances of the Altar in the day when they shall make it, to offer burnt offerings thereon, and to sprinkle blood thereon.

And on the second day thou shalt offer a kid of the goats without blemish for a sin offering; and they shall cleanse the Altar, as they did cleanse it with the bullock.

Seven days shall they purge the Altar and purify it; and they shall consecrate themselves.

And when these days are expired, it shall be, that upon the eighth day, and so forward, the priests shall make your burnt offerings upon the Altar, and your peace offerings; and I will accept you, saith the Lord GOD.

And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering, and put it upon the posts of the house, and upon the four corners of the settle of the Altar, and upon the posts of the gate of the inner court.

Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the Altar.

Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the Altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.

Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the Altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?
