The town in the hill country of Ephraim was the home of the judge Abdon (Judges 12:13 ,Judges 12:13,12:15 ) and of Benaiah, one of David's elite warriors (2 Samuel 23:30 ; 1 Chronicles 11:31 ). The site is identified with Far'ata about five miles southwest of Shechem.
