Holman Bible Dictionary
(dahr' duh) Personal name possibly meaning, “pearl of knowledge.” Famous wise man whose father is listed as Mahol in 1 Kings 4:31 but as Zerah in what appears to be a parallel list in 1 Chronicles 2:6 . Mahol may mean, “dancer,” “musician,” or “chorister,” representing an occupation or guild rather than the father's name.
Fausset's Bible Dictionary
DARA or DARDA. (See DARDA).
Easton's Bible Dictionary
Pearl of wisdom, one of the four who were noted for their wisdom, but whom Solomon excelled (1 Kings 4:31 ).
Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible
DARDA . Mentioned with Ethan the Ezrahite, Heman, and Calcol as a son of Mahol, and a proverbial type of wisdom, but yet surpassed by Solomon ( 1 Kings 4:31 ). In 1 Chronicles 2:6 apparently the same four ( Dara is probably an error for Darda ) are mentioned with Zimri as sons of Zerah, the son of Judah by Tamar ( Genesis 38:30 ). See also Mahol.
