Luke 13:7 These three years I come [τρια ετη απ ου ερχομαι]
Literally, “three years since (from which time) I come.” These three years, of course, have nothing to do with the three years of Christ‘s public ministry. The three years are counted from the time when the fig tree would normally be expected to bear, not from the time of planting. The Jewish nation is meant by this parable of the barren fig tree. In the withering of the barren fig tree later at Jerusalem we see parable changed to object lesson or fact (Mark 11:12-14; Matthew 21:18.).Cut it down (εκκοπσον — ekkopson). “Cut it out,” the Greek has it, out of the vineyard, perfective use of εκ — ek with the effective aorist active imperative of κοπτω — koptō where we prefer “down.”Why? Ellipsis here of γενηται — genētai of which τι — ti is subject (Robertson, Grammar, pp. 739, 916).Also (και — kai). Besides bearing no fruit.Doth cumber the ground Makes the ground completely idle, of no use Late verb, here only in the N.T. except in Paul‘s Epistles. [source]
Luke 19:13 Trade ye herewith till I come [πραγματευσαστε εν ωι ερχομαι]
First aorist middle imperative of πραγματευομαι — pragmateuomai an old verb from πραγμα — prāgma business. Here only in the N.T. Westcott and Hort in their text read πραγματευσασται — pragmateusasthai first aorist middle infinitive (-αι — ai and -ε — e were pronounced alike). The infinitive makes it indirect discourse, the imperative direct. [source]
John 14:28 I go away, and I come [υπαγω και ερχομαι]
If ye loved me Second-class condition with the imperfect active of αγαπαω — agapaō referring to present time, implying that the disciples are not loving Jesus as they should. Ye would have rejoiced Second aorist passive indicative of χαιρω — chairō with αν — an conclusion of second-class condition referring to past time, “Ye would already have rejoiced before this” at Christ‘s going to the Father (John 14:12). Greater than I Ablative case μου — mou after the comparative μειζων — meizōn (from positive μεγας — megas). The filial relation makes this necessary. Not a distinction in nature or essence (cf. John 10:30), but in rank in the Trinity. No Arianism or Unitarianism here. The very explanation here is proof of the deity of the Son (Dods). [source]
2 Corinthians 13:1 The third time I am coming [τριτον ερχομαι]
Either the third that he had planned to come or that he had been twice. The warning is made by quoting Deuteronomy 19:15. [source]
1 Timothy 4:13 Till I come [εως ερχομαι]
“While I am coming” (present indicative with εως — heōs), not “till I come” (εως ελτω — heōs elthō). [source]
Revelation 2:5 I come [ερχομαι]
Futuristic present middle (John 14:2.). [source]
Revelation 2:16 I come [ερχομαι]
Futuristic present middle indicative, “I am coming” (imminent), as in Revelation 2:5 with ταχυ — tachu as in Revelation 3:11; Revelation 11:14; Revelation 22:7, Revelation 22:12, Revelation 22:20. As with εν ταχει — en tachei (Revelation 1:1), we do not know how soon “quickly” is meant to be understood. But it is a real threat.Against them (μετ αυτων — met' autōn). This proposition with πολεμεω — polemeō rather than κατα — kata (against) is common in the lxx, but in the N.T. only in Revelation 2:16; Revelation 12:7; Revelation 13:4; Revelation 17:14 and the verb itself nowhere else in N.T. except James 4:2. “An eternal roll of thunder from the throne” (Renan). “The glorified Christ is in this book a Warrior, who fights with the sharp sword of the word” (Swete). With Instrumental use of εν — en For the language see Revelation 1:16; Revelation 2:12; Revelation 19:15. [source]
Revelation 3:11 I come quickly [ερχομαι ταχυ]
As in Revelation 2:16; Revelation 22:7, Revelation 22:12, Revelation 22:20. “The keynote of the book” (Beckwith). But allow the author‘s own meaning of “quickly.” [source]
Revelation 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief [ιδου ερχομαι ως κλεπτης]
The voice of Christ breaks in with the same metaphor as in Revelation 3:3, which see. There comes one of seven beatitudes in Rev (Revelation 1:3; Revelation 14:13; Revelation 16:15; Revelation 19:9; Revelation 20:6; Revelation 22:7, Revelation 22:14). For γρηγορων — grēgorōn (watching) see Revelation 3:2, and for τηρων — tērōn (keeping), Revelation 1:3. [source]
Revelation 22:7 And behold, I come quickly [και ιδου ερχομαι ταχυ]
Christ is the speaker, either through this angel or more probably directly from Christ without introduction as in Revelation 22:12, Revelation 22:16. About Christ coming quickly see Revelation 2:5, Revelation 2:16; Revelation 3:11; Revelation 16:15, and already in Revelation 1:2. Once more we must recall that ταχυ — tachu and εν ταχει — en tachei are according to God‘s time, not ours (2 Peter 3:8). [source]
Revelation 22:20 Yea: I come quickly [Ναι ερχομαι ταχυ]
Affirmation again of the promise in Revelation 22:7, Revelation 22:12. On Αμην ερχου Κυριε Ιησου — Nai (Yes) see Revelation 1:7 for the Lord‘s assent to the call. Then John expresses his absolute belief in the Lord‘s promise: “Amen: come, Lord Jesus” On Ιησου — Amēn see Revelation 1:7. On Μαρανα τα — erchou see Revelation 22:17. Note Kurie with Iēsou As in 1 Corinthians 12:3; Philemon 2:11. For Paul‘s confidence in the deity of Christ and the certainty of his second coming see Titus 2:13; 2 Timothy 4:8.
